Rocket: A Poem By Dominique

To know me, to know me
I can tell you, I don't make it easy
To be honest, I'm still learning myself
There are parts of me that I turned off, hidden for years now
If I didn't, I don't think I could function as a "normal" person in this society

I was born an Artist, something that I hide
Here to "starve" that's what they say, Give your heart and soul for little to no pay
I've got book smarts too....
but no matter what I do my he[art] always goes back to Art
Tragedy

There are moments when I'm immersed in my craft and I've never felt so alive
I MEAN, MY GOD I'VE NEVER FELT SO A-L-I-V-E!
Never have I felt so close to God than through ancient movements
I almost feel like I can fly
Every time it is spiritual...

So, maybe if you want to get to know me, you should start by dancing with me
Experience how my eyes light up with Hope
How my hips sway with the same enthusiasm as my Ancestors did when they heard the drums
And feel my heartbeat jump from excitement with the possibility that maybe---
I can fly.

MUSIC: Artist Of The Day

Ricky Fante' is a Soul singer that hails from Washington, DC. Fanté’s vocal sound has been compared to Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke, Al Green and Otis Redding. I don't have too much info on him because there's not a lot available online. I first discovered him while I was watching Oprah's movie 'Their Eyes Were Watching God' singing in the scene below.

GREAT voice!, right? I tried to look for his rendition of Al Green's 'Simply Beautiful' -nowhere to be found.
I recently found this video(below). Not sure where it's from, but it's interesting! He's playing Marvin Gaye, looks like a biopic.

I could see him playing Marvin Gaye.

Here's his myspace(hasn't been updated in awhile):

Where Are You Ricky Fante'?
Come back with some new music!
